The other side tried to exploit the fact that his parents were going through a divorce, and blamed his strange mood swings and problems in school on the splintering family and “normal teen angst.” Mr. Bearman and his medical team were able to prove his medical condition, calling upon a Harvard pediatrician to substantiate their position. The case settled for $900,000, a month before trial.

A woman whose home was damaged in a hurricane was fighting against her wind insurance company, which claimed the damage was actually due to flood, a switch tactic the business had repeatedly used with other homeowners to get out of paying its fair share.
